Jay brings many years of power plant experience to MaxGen. He spent his first 10 years after college serving as a commissioned officer on nuclear submarines. He left the Navy to pursue a 15-year commercial nuclear industry career in various management positions including design, quality assurance, procurement and project management. His last position with a major utility was the Manager of Capital Projects over 5 commercial nuclear sites (5,000 MW). He left the nuclear industry to join a newly formed ethanol company as their Director of Engineering, Maintenance, Quality Assurance and Procurement where his responsibilities included commissioning new production plants. During his tenure, the company grew from 2 production plants to 16 production plants in 7 states and from $300 million to $2.5 billion in annual sales. Jay joined the solar industry in 2009 as SunPower Americas Director of O&M for commercial and utility solar plants in Canada and the United States. He was also responsible for commissioning SunPower commercial and utility solar plants worldwide.
Jay founded Power Factors LLC with 2 partners in 2013 to provide independent operations center services to solar power owners and operators and consulting services to the Solar Industry. His tenure included commissioning oversight for the 2 largest solar plants in the United States (both over 500 MWac) and onsite consulting services for a 100 MWac solar plant in Chile.
